McAfee strikes again...

McAfeeUnprotected So, just to follow on from McAfee automatically charging my credit card to renew a subscription I didn't know I had...for a product, by the way, that I hadn't used for 2 years because it wasn't stable.

To be fair, they refunded the charge pretty quickly and assured me that they would comply with my request to remove all my details from their systems.

...

So should I have been surprised when I got an email from them?

I wasn't.

Although I am apparently "UNPROTECTED" I was comforted that my upgrade status was "ELIGIBLE".

McAfee-emailI also marvelled at the fact that they were so concerned about my protection that they were willing to give me a 30% discount...

How nice.

So I sat there when I received the email hovering over the buy button just because McAfee were such a great company...NOT!

They originally took money from me with out my permission, hiding behind cleverly constructed EULAs and website terms of service, at the full RRP for a product I don't use.  Then because I don't renew at the full price, they come back with a 30% discount!

Unbelievable.

Not only that, they emailed me this offer.

Which means they have my email address.

Which is part of the details I asked to be removed from their systems.

Its really warming to know that the companies out there really care about their customers and believe in their privacy...

The above images are screen grabs from the email I received from McAfee to illustrate the above posting.
