Other keyword libraries for Lightroom

Following on from the recent additions to my nature related keyword libraries, I started to build a list of other keyword libraries available to download for Adobe Lightroom.

Then I found that Richard Earney had already compiled such a list over on his website, inside lightroom.

I also owe Richard an apology – after I posted my library of UK Dragonflies he politely pointed out that he had posted almost exactly the same list a couple of months ago…sorry Richard!

Having looked, I think Richard’s list of Damselflies and Dragonflies is more complete than mine – it includes extinct and vagrant species – so you may want to use his version instead.

Even more nature keyword libraries!

Continuing from the European Mammals and Amphibian species keyword libraries I posted last week, Kiri on www.wildphotoforum.com provided some links to help me create another couple of libraries:

UK Butterflies

UK Dragonflies

These will work with Adobe Lightroom 2.x and 3.x.

New nature keyword libraries

After a conversation on the new nature photography forum www.wildphotoforum.com I have added a couple more Adobe Lightroom keyword libraries to my existing bird libraries:

European Mammals

European Amphibians

These will work with Lightroom 2.x and 3.x.

Keywording

Here's a couple of tips for you - don't get behind in your keywording and don't let your keyword library get in a mess.

I am guilty of both at the moment and facing a lot of boring and frustrating hours migrating to my latest bird species keyword libraries and getting up to date with Nature data LR tags too.

Not to mention tidying up and consolidating all those descriptors.  Although this is where Lightroom is a help – synonyms.

I have started to pull all the variations into synonyms, keeping the library nice and tidy in Lightroom, but still having the benefit of the extra keywords when I export out.

Colour has the synonym color

Perching has perched, sitting, standing

Don’t forget, the Lightroom versions of my species keywords take full advantage of this, e.g. White-billed Diver has Gavia adamsii and Yellow-billed Diver as synonyms.

Right, I better get back to that keyword library…

Structured keyword libraries

Tagging or keywording your images is useful for you to find your own images on your PC and to help other people find them when posted to Flickr, Smugmug etc.

Not to mention the importance of keywords in stock image libraries.
